Everything and the kitchen sink.

Salu-salo is a Tagalog word that means gathering, celebration, feast. Beyond dictionary terms, it conveys a feeling of mutual appreciation — an invitation to share a meal (no matter how simple) with no pre-requisite of what to bring because each other’s presence is enough.

My writing serves as an ongoing inquiry of my firsthand experiences as a Filipina chef. Though my life revolves around cooking and eating food, I’m always in search of new (and better) ways to consume it. This curiosity constantly births new capacities for understanding myself, my relationship with food, and how my role in the kitchen intersects with different areas of my life.

As at any dinner party, I aim to share my musings to foster genuine connection. Each newsletter randomly comes with recipes, media recommendations, nutritional facts and food trivia… a potluck of personal observations and culinary confessions.

Welcome. I’ve reserved a seat for you. Thanks for being here.
